DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES

Before the establishment of Vedan(Vietnam) Enterprise Corporation Limited in August 1991, the MSG products of Taiwan Vedan had been distributed in Vietnam through various importers, who were Independent Third Parties. In 1989, Taiwan Vedan commenced feasibility studies on establishing production facilities in Vietnam for the production of fermentation-based food additive and biochemical products in Vietnam. Following completion of the feasibility studies, a formal application for investment in Vietnam was submitted to the Vietnamese government in October 1990.

Vietnam

In August 1991, the Vietnamese government issued an investment licence to Vedan(Vietnam) Enterprise Corporation Limited referring to the right to use the land currently used by the Phuoc Thai Complex.

During the period between August 1991 and August 1994, we started to design and construct the integrated production facilities at the Phuoc Thai Complex, which included a MSG production plant, a starch production plant, a specialty chemical product plant, co-generation power plants, a waste treatment plant, a water purifying plant and private port facilities that can receive foreign vessels of up to 12,000 dwt. The construction of all these production and supporting facilities commenced in October 1992.

The following describes certain major development milestones of our business operations in Vietnam:
